Tongue and Groove Flanges
A tongue-and-groove joint pairs a projecting tongue with a matching groove. The two faces and the confined gasket dimensions must be specified together.
A matched facing pair
The tongue enters the mating groove around the bore. Request the complete pair or identify which half is needed for replacement. The tongue and groove widths, depths and diameters are governed by the selected standard or approved drawing.
Gasket confinement
The gasket occupies the specified sealing region within the joint. Its dimensions and compressed behaviour must suit the available space. Do not substitute a generic full-face or raised-face gasket without engineering approval of the seating arrangement.
Different from male and female
Tongue-and-groove and male-and-female facings describe distinct mating geometries. The terms should not be used interchangeably on an order. Confirm the exact facing designation and dimensions, especially where only one existing flange is available for inspection.
