Standard reference

DIN Flanges

DIN describes a standards system, not one flange specification. A DIN flange enquiry needs the full standard number, edition and dimensional designation.

Recover the complete callout

Obtain the complete DIN reference from the drawing, component marking or project specification. Identify nominal size, pressure designation, flange form and material. A photograph of a circular bolt pattern cannot establish the applicable DIN standard.

Current and historical requirements

Some legacy DIN flange requirements have relationships to later European standards. Determine whether the contract calls for the original requirement or a specified replacement. A replacement standard should not be assumed solely because it is newer or more readily available.

Compare the interface

Check drilling, outside diameter, thickness, hub or collar arrangement, facing and bore against the mating component. Document deviations in an approved drawing. Keep the material, temperature and pressure-design review separate from the exercise of matching physical dimensions.

Selection reference only. Offered scope, technical compliance and availability are confirmed against the complete project enquiry.

Standard scope and ordering designation

Use DIN only within its applicable scope. Obtain numerical dimensions and rating tables from the governing standard and the approved project documentation.

ScopeDIN describes a standards system, not one flange specification. A DIN flange enquiry needs the full standard number, edition and dimensional designation.Check size, material and component scope before applying any table.
Dimensional designationNominal size, series/type, rating designation and dimensional units.Matching nominal size does not prove matching bolt circle, thickness or facing.
Material-dependent ratingMaterial group, design temperature and any standard-specific rating rules.Do not read a class number as a direct pressure limit or transfer ratings between materials.
Related requirementsGaskets, fasteners, attachment welds and the project piping/equipment code. The flange standard does not replace complete assembly design or installation requirements.
Legacy or alternate designationsExisting drawing number, original standard and proposed replacement designation.Verify dimensions and suitability rather than assuming historical names are equivalent.

Compare related options

Compare DIN Flanges with the related forms or references below. A related product is not necessarily a permissible substitute.

EN 1092-1 FlangesEN 1092-1 flange enquiries use a steel flange type, DN and PN designation together with the exact material and facing requirements.EN 1092-1 edition, type, DN and PN
BS 4504 FlangesBS 4504 is a legacy flange reference that needs its full designation and contractual context. Confirm whether the project requires the original dimensions or a specified successor standard.BS 4504 part, edition and full designation
Flange Types GuideStart with the pipe or equipment connection, then choose a flange form that fits the design and maintenance requirements. A flange name does not select its material or rating.Butt weld, slip-on, socket weld, thread or stub-end arrangement

Inspection, documents and delivery

Define acceptance requirements for DIN Flanges in the purchase order. Required examinations and documents depend on the material, design and project specification.

DIN Flanges: inspection, documents and delivery
Review stageInformation to confirmOrder requirement
Material identity and traceabilitySpecification, grade, heat/lot identification and the required material certificate.Agree documentation and marking before manufacture; visual appearance cannot verify alloy identity.
Dimensional verificationCritical dimensions from the selected standard or controlled drawing.Identify inspection points, tolerances, units and drawing revision.
Surface and end conditionGasket-contact surface, attachment end, edges and any coating exclusions.State finish and visual acceptance criteria; agree protection of machined surfaces.
Supplementary examinationsAny specified PMI, NDE, hardness, impact, corrosion or other tests.Define the method, sampling and acceptance criteria; tests are not automatically included.
Assembly compatibilityAdjoining components, weld or mechanical interface and project service conditions.Design approval and correct assembly remain separate from a dimensional inspection report.
Packing and order releaseQuantity, identification, surface protection, documents and delivery destination.Agree preservation, packaging and release requirements with the order.
